Complex Orthopedic Surgery: Collaboration and Technology at the Heart of the Procedure

We recently had the opportunity to contribute to a particularly complex orthopedic oncology case, led by Dr. Jean-Camille Mattéi and his team.

A young patient diagnosed with pelvic osteosarcoma required a highly precise procedure in a delicate area, close to the spinal nerve roots and near the hip joint.

To achieve clear surgical margins while preserving vital structures, patient-specific cutting guides were designed using CT and MRI images. These guides enabled the surgeon to perform precise bone resections, minimizing the risk of nerve injury.

At the same time, a custom-made pelvic implant was developed in collaboration with Adler Ortho. Mirrored from the patient’s original anatomy, the implant reconstructs the resected bone while carefully respecting the surrounding surgical environment (nerve roots, joint structures, etc.). Its design encourages bone integration, and its placement ensures a stable connection between the pelvis and the spine.

This type of solution enhances not only mechanical stability but also supports a more targeted functional recovery.

We sincerely commend the multidisciplinary teamwork and expertise brought together for this patient, and we’re grateful for the trust placed in our technology. Every case is unique, but our mission remains the same: providing tailored technological support to medical teams for the benefit of their patients.

Thank you to Dr. Mattéi for sharing this transparent and insightful case. Congratulations on your remarkable work!
