A demanding bone oncology case at CHU Nancy.
We collaborated once again with Dr. Francois Sirveaux on a surgery involving femoral tumor resection followed by allograft reconstruction.
In this type of intervention, the challenge is important: to remove the entire tumor with a safe margin, while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible to allow for a solid and functional reconstruction.
Every millimeter matters.
The 3D preoperative planning made it possible to define precisely:
3 cutting planes adapted to the patient’s anatomy,
a 5 mm safety margin to ensure oncological security,
the strategy for shaping the allograft so it would fit perfectly with the patient’s bone.
Two specific guides were created: one for tumor resection, the other for allograft preparation.
Combined with anatomical models, they provided the surgeon with clear visualization and reliable references throughout the procedure.
This preparatory work does not diminish the complexity of the surgical act itself: it supports it. The precision of execution and the success of the operation ultimately rely on the expertise of the surgeon and their team.
Congratulations to Dr. Sirveaux and his team for carrying out this delicate surgery. We are grateful to have contributed to this process, where planning and technology come together to serve the patient, in a context where the stakes are particularly important.
