Flexion Contracture Resolved: A Successful Humerus Realignment

Sharing this case today with particular satisfaction, as the patient is doing extremely well three months after surgery.
No complications, full recovery of immediate post-operative mobility — and most notably, a significant functional gain: resolution of a long-standing flexion contracture that had been present for years.
The procedure involved a closing wedge osteotomy of the humerus, carefully planned to correct the deformity while securing each step of the surgical workflow.
A patient-specific cutting guide was used to execute two precise cutting planes, with depth control and optimized positioning using six aligning K-wires. These K-wires not only ensured accurate placement of the guide but also helped guide the fixation plate, aligning the bone fragments exactly as planned.
The challenge here was not extreme angulation, but the need for millimetric accuracy to restore bone alignment without creating stress on the surrounding soft tissues.
The surgery followed a well-prepared plan, allowing a smooth execution and preserving the anatomical balance of the arm.
Three months later, the patient has regained full, stable range of motion — and most importantly, joint comfort he hadn’t experienced in years.
Thank you to Dr Louis-Charles Castrel for his trust and surgical expertise throughout this case.
