In this recent case, a lateral approach was used for a distal femur osteotomy—performed near the knee joint, where precision is critical.
To support the surgeon, we developed two patient-specific instruments based on the patient’s anatomy: a cutting guide and an aligner guide.
The cutting guide was designed to avoid sensitive anatomical structures while offering solid stability, anchored by four K-wires—including one placed directly into the closing wedge fragment. The step-by-step plan enabled a smooth workflow in the OR, from the initial cuts to fragment repositioning.
Once correction was achieved, the aligner guide was introduced over the remaining three parallel wires, ensuring controlled fixation of the realigned bone.
This case highlights what we aim for every day: creating tailored tools that integrate seamlessly into surgical workflows and adapt to each surgeon’s approach.
