3D pelvic model showing acetabular tumor (in red), planned resection planes, and patient-specific cutting and reconstruction guides for precise pelvic tumor surgery.

Achieving safe oncological margins while preserving critical bone structures is always a delicate balance especially in the pelvis.

In this recent case, the tumor had invaded the acetabulum.

The resection was therefore carefully planned to maintain as much bone as possible around the acetabulum, particularly along the posterior column, while respecting a 5 mm safety margin across three cutting planes.

3D preoperative planning based on CT and MRI imaging allowed us to precisely define the resection levels and anticipate the reconstruction strategy.

A patient-specific resection guide was designed for a lateral approach, ensuring a single, stable fit on the bone and controlled drilling and cutting depths, fully aligned with the validated plan.

In parallel, a second guide was developed to prepare the reconstruction. It defined the implantation axis, secured the drilling trajectory, and controlled depth, enabling accurate implant positioning.

Careful preparation and accurate resection helps to get improved surgical outcome.

Thank you to the surgical team for their trust and collaboration throughout this project.
