Precision and Function Preservation in Bone Tumor Surgery
In complex pelvic tumor resections, precision is key to achieving an optimal balance between removing the lesion and preserving healthy structures.
In this case, a patient-specific 3D guide was developed to assist the surgical team during a pelvic resection.
From 3D Planning to Surgical Execution
Using 3D preoperative planning, the surgical team defined the ideal orientation of the cutting planes to maintain as much of the sacroiliac joint as possible.
Based on this virtual plan, the 3D-Side team designed a 3D-Cut surgical guide to ensure an accurate translation from the digital model to the operating room.
Key Design Features
The guide offered several advantages for a precise and safe procedure:
🔹 Accurate positioning on the ilium and sacrum
🔹 Optimized orientation to protect joint structures
🔹 Stable fixation with K-wires
🔹 Engraved depth indicators for controlled cutting
Toward More Conservative Surgery
This personalized approach allows surgeons to perform accurate resections while preserving the pelvic function. It highlights how 3D planning and custom surgical tools contribute to more targeted and conservative interventions.
A Step Forward in Orthopedic Oncology
Each case reinforces how digital planning and patient-specific solutions can support surgeons in achieving better precision and improved patient outcomes.
